When you have the right information regarding these four types of microphones and their uses, you will be able to narrow down your options well.

1. Dynamic Microphones

They are the amazing-quality microphones that convert sound waves in electrical signals. Dynamic microphones are affordable and durable. These are one of the most long-lasting microphones available in the market, which do not break apart easily.

There are two types of dynamic microphones. They include ribbon microphone and moving coil. Dynamic microphones are usually used for instruments that have mid-range energy. Dynamic microphones have bass roll-offs. So, they do not go well with the low-end instruments. They are only good for low-mid sound energy.

2. Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

These are studio microphones for recording and producing amazing-quality voice. These microphones  are the kind of mics used by the professionals of the music industry and they’re very large. A large diaphragm is said to be 1 inch wide in the diameter. Large diaphragms are super devices that enlarge the voice, make it sound more beautiful, soothing and adorable. Large diaphragms are known to produce the “romantic sounds” – as it increases the beauty of a voice and create “larger than life” sound.

These microphones are ideal for performances of all types of tasks. They are highly performing microphones that produce incredible, stylish and versatile music.

3. Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone

Small Diaphragm Condenser is called the cousin of the large diaphragm condenser microphones. They are half inch smaller in diameter than the normal-range microphones. They are a great instrument for the acoustic instruments as well as realistic stereo techniques. These types of microphones give the most transient response. Small Diaphragm condenser microphones are suitable for stereo recording.

4. Ribbon Microphones

These are the oldest kinds of microphone types. These microphones were largely used in the golden-age of the field of broadcasting. There are many pictures of veteran presenters using ribbon microphones. Earlier ribbon designs were very fragile, which could break apart easily. If you move the microphone and press it a little, the microphone would fall apart easily – they are this fragile.

Ribbon microphones tend to capture the sound just the way our ears listen to them. But they do not withstand the abuse as much as the dynamic microphones do.
